St. Paul Bereavement Group

Please call Dr. Sheila Devlin-Craane at (917) 577-2129  for information about the group as well as the schedule - thank you!

St. Paul is pleased to support parishioners along with their family and friends through the difficult process of grieving for the earthly loss of their loved ones.

Our Catholic faith gives us comfort in knowing that they are not truly gone from us; rather they are now with our creator in a better place enjoying the eternal happiness our Savior promised us.

Parishioner Dr. Dianne Deachan offers words of encouragement and advice...

When you lose someone you love, your world as you know it has changed forever. The emotions you experience are painful, frightening and seemingly unending. Your life will return to normal but it will be a ‘new’ normal. You will need to accept the many changes coming your way and accept the grief you will experience as you make these forced changes. The following suggestions have been helpful to many others and might help you to move forward:

  • Trust God and cling to Him. Bring all your fear and sorrows to Him. He won’t let you down.
  • Accept and acknowledge your grief. You will grieve in your own unique way.
  • It is OK to share your sorrow and pain with others. You need others to listen and support you. You are not the first person to go through this and through the sharing process you will realize how common what you are feeling is shared by others.
  • Grief is not a sign of weakness. It is part of being human and a cost of true love for someone. Grief is the process by which we work through our loss.
  • The goal is to once again live a life with happiness. Your will never forget the one you loved and lost but you can find happiness again in your world.
